The copyright records are a bit more definitive than any webcomic creator's statement.  That's where I'd start, personally.  I can't think of any court case where a CBR iterview was admitted as valid copyright evidence...

For reference, though, I don't see a renewal on any Moon Girl issue, though I didn't check to see if any individual story was renewed as a "contribution to a periodical."  But anybody who needs to know should do the check themselves, for obvious legal reasons.
