The person I got them from sources them as being from the SFACA archives off Microfilm as well as 5 additional strips missing from the SFACA archives, so no, they weren't from reprints.  LMK

So guys, what's the call?  They are not sourced from reprints.  They are American and Pre 1922. Huh

Hi CW,
I've asked AUSSIE, the main person in charge of these types of decisions to make the call.
She's been sick for quite a while so we will have to wait until she can get a look at the situation.

So patience would be helpful here.  Sorry I can't do anything more.

Well for starters although Olive Oyle might have first appeared in the Thimble Theatre strips in 1919 but Popeye never appeared till 1929. King Features have a swath of lawyers no doubt ready to jump on unsuspecting copyright infringer's so l am a bit wary of this l have to admit. l had a look through the renewals for the King Features strips and other than the obvious Krazy Kat can find no sign of renewals for the King Features syndicated strips before 1933, and l can find no sign of anything that could be the Thimble Theatre strips individually renewed before that date, but still that is not absolutely conclusive they would be PD since l am depending on records others have compiled. We would be willing to try out any Thimble Theatre strips that are pre 1933, so 1919-1932 would be OK to post.

Does this mean that someone could post the Mandrake Comics I found on a blog?

Without lots more information on the strips, I wouldn't even be able to guess.  And unlike Aussie, I've never quite been able to figure out where it's best to look for strip copyrights.

They may be creator-owned or syndicate-owned, which makes it more of a nightmare.

Safe answer again is 'best not' DrM.  Better safe than sorry.

No it does not mean you can upload Mandrake Comics Dr. Mindshadow, which have nothing to do with Popeye did not exist before 1934 and Lee Falk never died till 1999 so it will be a long time till they become public domain anywhere.
